Bringing out the spirit of volunteering in all of us

To succeed in development efforts and make progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), it is important for people to be involved. To do so, we all need to encourage the active participation of local volunteers. Today volunteers are playing an important role in the development of local communities and in achieving their MDGs.

 GERMAN TECHNICAL COOPERATION (GTZ) LAUNCHES PROJECT ON HIV/AIDS AND DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION- March 9th has marked the launch of the HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse Prevention project which will be carried out by the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

February has been a very productive month for a team of Y-PEER trainers from Namangan as they conducted several educational sessions on reproductive health and prevention of drug use and STI / HIV using peer education methods. Four sessions were held for students of the Pedagogical and Economy College of Namangan city with around 15 students participating in each seminar.

UN Holds Charity Bazaar of Disabled Women’s Crafts to Mark International Women’s Day

Tashkent, 5 March 2010 - Ahead of March 8th- the International Women's Day, UNDP and the UN Information Center hold a bazaar of crafts produced by women with disabilities. This year's International Women's Day is celebrated under the theme "Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities: Progress for All", and underlines the importance of ensuring equality, dignity, economic and social liberty for women and girls.
