UN Holds Media Event to Mark 18th anniversary of Uzbekistan Joining the United Nations
The UN Office in Tashkent held a media briefing today devoted to the 18th anniversary of Uzbekistan's becoming a full-fledged member of the United Nations. •MEETING OF THE MEC- On February 5th 2010, the Multisectoral Expert Council on HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria (MEC) held a meeting. Three key decisions were taken during the meeting: (i) Official endorsement of the RCC proposal as a continuation of the successful Round 3 grant , (ii) Inclusion of a representative of people living with HIV (PLHIV) into the MEC membership and (iii) Endorsement of the MEC Work plan for 2010. With the appointment of Ms. Nurshida Ismailova as representative of the community of PLHIV, the MEC has made an important step in strengthening the inclusiveness of the MEC and enhancing the participation of PLHIV in action and the decision making processes of national HIV responses. Three UN agencies and the Government of Uzbekistan have agreed on the action plan for 2010-2015. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) signed their respective Country Programme Action Plans last week following UNICEF's signing CPAP in late 2009. |
