UZBEKISTAN - CENTRAL ASIA UZBEKISTAN Y-PEER NETWORK CONTINUES TO GROW - On September 19-23, 2009, twenty new members joined the Uzbekistan Youth Peer Educational Network (Y-PEER) after taking part in a 5-day training in Fergana. Participants referred to this training as "Five days of study and five days of personal and professional growth." Volunteers, aged 17-24 and coming from different parts of Uzbekistan, gathered together in the heart of Fergana valley to gain knowledge and training skills in the area of young people's health, including reproductive health. The training was part of a series of Y-PEER trainings organized by UNFPA in cooperation with national partners to support programmes targeted at promotion of healthy lifestyles among young people in Uzbekistan. Prevention of HIV, STIs and drug use were the major topics discussed by participants, who all work in various projects and programmes countrywide to empower young people to protect themselves from these risks.
