UN Friday: Join these Four Successful Women

Aziza Umarova is an international affairs professional and the Head of the Good Governance Team at the UN Office in Uzbekistan.
Ms. Tracy Roou is the senior defence official at the US Embassy in Tashkent, who has experienced a highly decorated career in the defence industry.
Ms. Dultaeva has played a vital role in Uzbekistan’s media industry, having worked in both journalism and public relations in both national and international fields.

In the lead up to International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, the United Nations Information Office will dedicate its next UN Friday on the 24th of February to recognizing four local and international women who have overcome challenges and obstacles in order to reach the top of their chosen professional fields. The four remarkable individuals who will lead our event’s forum will include the Elementary Principal at Tashkent International School Ms. Kristen DiMatteo, the Head of the Good Governance Team at UNDP’s country office Ms. Aziza Umarova, Senior Defence Official at the American Embassy in Tashkent Ms. Tracy Roou, and Fund Forum’s Press Secretary and Spokesperson Ms. Dinara Dultaeva. These influential, respected women will provide insight into the challenges overcome and successes achieved during their careers, and will lead a discussion regarding the steps currently undertaken to empower women in cultures around the globe.

Ms. Kristen DiMatteo

With three Masters Degrees, and extensive experience in all areas of Elementary and Secondary school education in the United States and Europe, the Elementary Principal at Tashkent International School, Ms. Kristen DiMatteo, is a respected expert in the field international education. Since joining the TIS staff in August 2010, Ms. DiMatteo has worked tirelessly to develop the school’s Elementary curriculum, specifically with regards to advancing the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. During the upcoming UN Friday Ms. DiMatteo will provide insight into her professional life in the United States, Poland and Uzbekistan. 

Ms. Aziza Umarova

Ms. Aziza Umarova is an international affairs professional and the Head of the Good Governance Team at the UN Office in Uzbekistan. After experiencing the collapse of the Soviet Union during her childhood, Ms. Umarova developed a lifelong interest in government, politics and international relations, and would latter pursue this passion during her studies at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and while obtaining her Masters Degree at the University of St Andrews in the United Kingdom. Ms. Umarova has applied her considerable abilities in her current position, working to strengthen the ‘checks and balances’ system in Uzbekistan’s government. During next week’s UN Friday, Ms. Umarova will discuss the challenges she has faced in the Russian, Uzbek, Chinese and Western cultures during her professional development. 

Ms. Tracy Roou

Ms. Tracy Roou is the senior defence official at the US Embassy in Tashkent, who has experienced a highly decorated career in the defence industry. Ms. Roou served more than 21 years in the US Army after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and she has since worked as the Military Assistant and Advisor to the NATO Senior Civilian Representative to Afghanistan at the ISAF HQ in Kabul. Ms. Roou currently serves as the Senior Defence Official and Defence Attaché at the US Embassy. By participating in the upcoming UN Friday, Ms. Roou will provide a unique insight into the experiences of women in the defence industry. 

Ms. Dinara Dultaeva


The fourth participant at our UN Friday event will be Ms. Dinara Dultaeva, Press Secretary and Spokesperson at Fund Forum. Ms. Dultaeva has played a vital role in Uzbekistan’s media industry, having worked in both journalism and public relations in both national and international fields. Her broad professional experience, both in Uzbekistan and overseas, has made her a significant asset to local media; she is looking forward to a vibrant and engaging career in years to come. During our UN Friday, Ms. Dultaeva will highlight the differences she has encountered while working in different national media industries.

This upcoming event will be the latest in a series of UN Friday events conducted by the United Nations Information Office, designed to highlight the international and national work of UN agencies.
